Beware Dec. 21, 2012

Have you heard of the 2012 hoax? I had not until I listened to the NOVA Science Now podcast for Feb. 27. Apparently some people believe that the Earth, Sun, and the giant black hole in the center of the galaxy will align on Dec. 21 (the winter solstice), 2012 and the cumulative gravity will cause Earth to spin on its axis or some such nonsense.

People, it's a hoax! As astrophysicist Dr. Neil de Grasse Tyson explains in the podcast above, this alignment happens every year and is nothing to worry about. Get a grip and don't believe everything you read on the Internet!
